How Toni went from chasing running PBs to running her own life, and achieving both.
The Starting Point
Toni came to Phill as a running client. The goals were straightforward: improve her times, run stronger events, and take her performance to the next level.
Through the Fit to Run programme, the foundations were laid, training structure, nutrition for performance, recovery, and event preparation. The running improved. Personal bests followed. But six months in, Toni made a decision that would change far more than her finishing times.
The Shift
Alongside the running coaching, Toni began working through the Fit for Life programme, weekly check-ins, accountability calls, group chats, and a goal-setting process called hot penning: writing down goals, dreams, and wishes in a way most people never let themselves do.
Slowly, without making a big announcement about it, things began to change. Routines that had felt unfamiliar became normal. Habits shifted. Morning intentions replaced the reactive start to the day. Evening reviews replaced the scroll. Daily practices that had always seemed like "someone else's thing" became hers.
And something much quieter happened too. Hobbies she'd pushed aside for years came back. Self care, always the last thing on the list, moved to the top.
"I began to run my life, instead of my world's demands controlling me."
The Life Transformation
This is the shift that Fit for Life is built around, and it looks different for everyone. For Toni, it was the realisation that the habits, structure and accountability that made her a better runner could do the same thing for everything else in her life.
Through the hot penning process, goals that had always felt vague began to take shape. Dreams she'd set aside became things she was actively working toward. The morning intention practice and evening review created daily anchors, moments where she paused, reflected and chose direction rather than reacting to whatever the day threw at her.
In her own words, the biggest personal bests are still happening. Goals that were once only dreams are now becoming reality, both inside and outside of running.
The Running
The running results Toni came for arrived, and then some. A 10k personal best cut by 10 minutes. The Brighton Marathon completed. The Dunstable Downs Half Marathon. Two 50k ultra marathons, events that demand not just fitness but the mindset to keep going when everything tells you to stop.
These aren't the results of someone who just followed a training plan. They're the results of someone who built the habits, the resilience and the self-belief alongside the physical preparation. The running was the vehicle. Fit for Life was the engine.
12 Months of Fit to Run + Fit for Life
A transformation across running, habits, mindset and life.
26.2 miles completed. A bucket-list achievement earned through consistent, structured training.
A 10-minute personal best improvement. The kind of result that happens when fitness and mindset align.
Two ultra marathon finishes, events that demand resilience, preparation and belief as much as fitness.
Morning intentions, evening reviews and daily structure replaced reactive living with intentional choices.
Hobbies rekindled. Self care prioritised. "I became important to me", Toni's words.
Dreams written down during hot penning sessions are now becoming achievements. And more are coming.
In Their Own Words
I began as a Fit to Run client but then added the Fit for Life as well. The accountability of weekly check in messages, accountability calls, group chats, running with Phill and other clients, hot penning goals, wishes and dreams has changed my life.
I began to run my life instead of my world's demands controlling me. Hobbies I had abandoned began to be rekindled. Self care became important to me; I became important to me.
Running coaching introduced me to morning intentions and evening review. Accountability and routine became normal life practices.
Running PBs, including taking 10 minutes off a 10k time, Brighton Marathon finisher, Dunstable Downs Half Marathon finisher, 2×50k ultra completions… but the biggest personal bests are still happening!
I have goals now that have evolved and are continuing to grow, both with running and outside of running. Some goals that were only ever dreams. And now they are happening!
I know I would never have achieved what I did without Phill's help.
